The time has come..!
The time has come to update my blog.
While there is alot of write, my closest friends know my heart and what has been going on so I dont need to tell the world all of the million details!
Eagle Lake Camp
--- The single best experience of my life!! I had the most amazing time of my life there in Colorado this summer.. however it all came to a crashing hault.. 5 weeks to early. Waldo Canyon Fires are the reason and the destruction for the closing of camp. When we were off camp on a Saturday we got a call we could not return to camp that night because of a fire that started close to camp, little did we know this would become of the most desctructive fires in history. 4 days later we got the notice camp at the actual camp site was cancelled.
Devastation hit me hard. How could this happen? THis place I loved that I was just getting to know was going to end for the rest of the summer!? It was weird, when I went to NIU I got homesick often, but at Eagle Lake and in Colorado it was the total opposite. I DREADED thinking of going back home, I just wanted to stay there forever, or at least until August 11th! We had 2 weeks of training and only 4 short weeks of camp untill it was cancelled. Sadly girls cabin burt down and alot of the camp was burnt from the fire. These girls lost everything that they brought to camp. I recently just recieved my stuff in the mail the other week. We were evacuated for a week not knowing what each day would bring not knowing the news we were going to hear of the status remaining of our camp. More importantly not knowing if we were going to be sent home from the community we had formed.
It was so inspiring to see how people annd organizations reached out. Food companies providing us with food, and goodwill giving us vouchers so we could have a change of clothes for the week.
At the end of the week, we found out the news we all dreaded would never come. . .
We were going to be sent back home. The minute I heard the news the tears came, all around the room held tear struck faces. I cant write much on this, Its still hard to comprehend and be home knowing I could still be there, but I know God has a plan and he is working marvelously through this all.
If you could keep COlorado Springs in your prayers, for all of the 300+ people who lost their homes in this fire. If the fire has taught me one thing it is the pointless-ness of buying expensive items. It can all be gone in a second in flames. The "nice" clothes you needed to have, the expensive furniture all of it. I had come to the conclusion I wouldnt see any of my belongings at camp again. I was okay with that, honestly it was mostly comfy cheap clothes, and the material iteams you realize just do NOT matter in life.
I WOULD LOOSE ALL MY CLOTHING TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SPEND THOSE REMAINING WEEKS BEING THE CAMP PHOTOGRAPHER .. then to own the items I bought to spend 12 weeks there. Life is so unpredictable. Enough Said!
I found a community that I had been longing for since I left NIU. While it is sad my cloest friends live all over the country now.. its still amazing to see how god answers prayers.
